Federico Pizzarotti was born in Parma on October 7, 1973 and is the mayor of Parma from May 21, 2012.
Pizzarotti graduated in Electronics from the Primo Levi Professional Institute for Industry and Crafts, Parma. He worked many years as a consultant for banks and financial institutions. At the time of the mayoral election, he was working as an ICT project manager at Credito Emiliano in Reggio Emilia.
Pizzarotti is married since 2003.
He became active in politics in 2009 with the commitment to the Five Star Movement started by Beppe Grillo. On the regional elections held in 2010 he stood as a candidate for the office of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Councillor, but he was not elected.
In March 2012, he stood as a candidate for the Five Star Movement for the office of mayor of Parma in the local government elections on the 6th and 7th May 2012, following Pietro Vignali’s resignation, from the center-right, and the city under the administration of an external commissioner. In the first round he got the 19.47% of the vote and went to second ballot against the center-left candidate Vincenzo Bernazzoli, president of the province of Parma, confident in the knowledge of the 39.20% of the vote. May 21 Pizzarotti won the runoff race with 60.22% of the vote and therefore became mayor of Parma. He is the first mayor of an administrative center belonging to the Five Stars Movement.
